Currently, Vietnam's agriculture sector produces 70 million tons of agricultural waste annually, the vast amount of livestock waste is often not yet thoroughly treated causing environmental pollution: water pollution, air pollution, low fertilizer quality and plant pathogens, global warming due to crop residues burned. The soil becomes infertile due to the overuse of chemical fertilizers, little use of organic fertilizer.

While simple composting is a viable solution to the above problem, farmers rarely have the patience to do so since this is a relatively long process and needs careful attention.


In this situation, Microbiology and Environment JSC (MITECOM), with the support of VCIC, produces and commercializes EMIC preparations - including effective microorganisms that help decompose agricultural waste into micro-organic compost, create great efficiency for agriculture, improve soil, and stop environmental pollution caused by burning agricultural residues, reducing agricultural production costs, increasing income for farmers.

Although the commercial and environmental benefits of the product have been developed by MITECOM, changing farmers' chemical fertilizer usage habits - products they've been using for decades, is a conspicuous challenge.


With the support of VCIC, up to April 2017, MITECOM has continuously expanded production, accessed new markets, brought the product directly to many farmer groups - who handle a large amount of straw; rice husk; corn husk; cassava root; bagasse and peanuts and leaves to increase their believe in the new method of fertilizer application and its cost-effectiveness in replacing chemical fertilizers. Specifically, with more than 10,000 products sold, the total CO2 reduction was up to 15,600 tons, creating 25 more jobs including 12 women, the business revenue also increased by more than 30%. In addition, VCIC has assisted MITECOM to call for successful funding of up to $ 170,000 to continue growing its business.

With these great achievement, MITECOM is currently a successful example in the field of clean technology in Vietnam in general and has the potential to expand into international markets.
