TRIZ improves labor productivity: From theory to practice

The theory of TRIZ patent problems has been applied by many large technology corporations such as IBM, Samsung, Intel, ... to increase the number of patents, contributing to bringing a competitive advantage in the intellectual property race. Besides, they also apply TRIZ systematically to improve the production stages to improve labor productivity.
This article mentions to the teaching and application of TRIZ in some corporations and businesses in Vietnam and the effectiveness it brings in the improvement of equipment, machinery and production stages.
The theory of TRIZ patent problems was developed by Genrikh Saulovich Altshuller, a Russian-Jewish engineer based on the study of numerous patents. Different from the psychological approach, Altshuller takes a creative approach in the direction of objective laws. An important premise for Altshuller to build TRIZ is “Innovative inventor changes the technical systems that develop according to certain objective laws, regardless of arbitrary subjective psychology of the inventors. Therefore, it is only possible to improve the productivity and efficiency of the invention creation process when the inventor masters the laws of objective development and knows how to control his subjective psychology according to them”.
From the research of patents and statistical methods Altshuller has built 40 creative tricks. He also discovered that patent problems often contain technical contradictions, from which he built 39 specifications. To resolve technical conflicts, Altshuller has created an elimination table of technical contradictions. From this elimination table, about 1,200 different types of technical conflicts can be solved. Next, Altshuller discovered a kind of core conflict that is physical contradiction, and to solve this conflict he designed 11 model transformations, 76 standard and ARIZ program.
It can be said that TRIZ possesses a very powerful toolkit to solve technical problems and creates a good theoretical basis to support patent activities.
TRIZ is built on the combined basis of many different scientific fields such as Cybernetics, Information Theory, Patent Information System, System Theory, Creative Psychology, .... Therefore, the mastery and good application of TRIZ should be based on comprehensive, interdisciplinary knowledge.
TRIZ's tools are designed to solve two basic types of contradictions: technical and physical contradictions. These tools are also oriented towards solutions. This overcomes a very basic drawback of trial and error, and lacks a navigation mechanism. On the other hand, TRIZ is built from researching patents in an objective and regular manner so that the solutions can achieve high sustainability. Currently, many technology groups have successfully applied TRIZ. More and more seminars, scientific articles, and publications on TRIZ have been issued, helping the engineering community have more favorable conditions to access and apply TRIZ to improve labor productivity.
