"Agriculture remains the mainstay and foundation of Vietnam's socio-economic development, especially during the COVID-19 crisis, the more we see the crucial role of agriculture in stabilizing people's economic lives as well as exports. Of the more than 20 industries with an export value of more than 1 billion USD, agriculture accounts for about 4 important sectors, especially the growth rate as well as the space to apply innovative technologies to agriculture. Currently, the index of application of science and technology to agriculture leads the country at about 37% and is expected to increase to 53-54% in the next 10 years" - Mr. Pham Duc Nghiem, Deputy Director of the National Agency for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Development (NATEC), Ministry of Science and Technology said.
In order for the agricultural industry to develop quickly and sustainably, affirm the value of brands and products, it is necessary to strengthen the application and transfer of high technologies, smart agriculture to adapt to climate change and ecological agriculture. At the same time, it is important to improve the quality of young human resources for research. In the 4th industrial revolution, with the development related to automation, digitization, the demand for skills changes rapidly, human resources must also be prepared faster, earlier, updated in a more realistic approach. Besides, promoting scientific research and technology transfer activities in universities, especially research-oriented universities is necessary. The school actively approaches the market and creates demand for businesses. In Vietnam, the Government considers entrepreneurship as a national goal to encourage and support development ideas to become innovative start-ups.

Participating projects need to meet creative and feasible factors, solve pressing problems in society, bring high technology and economic factors.
"Through this program, many projects of students have been realized into cooperatives, companies, and start-ups, and now they are being developed in many different localities, bringing new jobs, create values for employees and the community, especially through promoting local activities to create beneficial values from products of local regions by applying research topics. Scientific research has been well-trained from universities, including the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture," said Mr. Nguyen Tat Thang, head of the organizing committee of the Innovation and Agricultural Startup Competition.

Through this year's contest, VNUA and VCIC will evaluate, select and support good ideas/projects to organize connections with domestic and foreign investors and large investment funds.
