With the support of startup enterprises and businesses after the success of the 1st Proof of Concept contest, Vietnam Climate Innovation Center (VCIC) has launched the 2nd Proof of Concept contest in Vietnam in April 2017 with the support of World Bank and under the supervision of Ministry of Science and Technology.
The contest aims to turn challenges posed by climate change into business opportunity for young entrepreneurs and businesses in the development of business model, products or innovative services capable of creating positive effects on the Vietnam’s environment, economy and society. Through the PoC, startup enterprises will have the opportunity to receive grant funding and access full support for business development from VCIC.
Especially, successful applicants of PoC will receive grant funding up to 75.000 USD to develop, launch and/or scale up a product or a service, have preferred access to VCIC program and its full range of advisory services (training, mentorship, facilities, startup support network, expert network, partnership network and access to investors)

In the 1st Proof on Concept, 18 businesses have received the climate innovation award in June 2016. Notable projects include: Biomass gas cooker and solar cooker; bio treatment of ethanol waste to produce bio fertilizer and probiotic; solving traffic congestion in city and reducing CO2 emission through car pool solution; flooring and bamboo production of high quality for interior use, reducing waste: Automatic climate weather station using technology and Information connection software, forecast and automatic warning on weather, pests for agriculture and local communities and actively respond to climate change and sub-regional disaster reduction; processing rice husks and pressed sawdust for use in water filters….

According to Mr. Pham Duc Nghiem – Deputy Head of National Agency for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Development – PMU Director of VCIC, VCIC wishes to accompany businesses to co-create opportunity for development, build a green environment for growth and promote the development of social economy in Vietnam.

Eligible applicants include: researchers, private businesses, start-ups, existing companies in Vietnam that are developing a new innovative product and business models in the field of climate change. Targeted sectors include: Energy efficiency; Sustainable agriculture; Water management and purification; Renewable energy; IT for climate change and other climate technology

applicants will be invited to a 1-week focused training session to receive support for the preparation of their 2nd round Full Proposal submission. VCIC will evaluate and select the best Sub-Project’s Full Proposals to receive funding awards
The deadline for application is 17:00 PM, May 23th, 2017.
The evaluation criteria include, but not limited to:
PoC applications must focus on meeting criteria such as: emphasizing innovation in technology and business model which can create products and services contributing to adapting to impacts and challenges of climate change, potential for spreading in a large scale.
Workshop on call for idea
VCIC will organize workshops to call for idea in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City to provide additional information on the 2nd PoC and answer questions. Specifically, the workshop in Hanoi will take palce on May 4th, 2017 in the office of MOST – 113 Tran Duy Hung, Hanoi; the workshop in Da Nang will take place on May 5th, 2017 in Duy Tan University, Da Nang and the workshop in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on May 6th, 2017 in Saigon Innovation Hub, Ho Chi Minh City.
